Skiing With Children: The Best Resorts for Family Skiing

Go back to blog 8 minutes

Want to take the whole family skiing? When skiing with children, it’s important to choose your ski resort carefully, but also to organise yourself in advance. This will save you lots of tears. Here is some advice on how to have a great day skiing with your family, as well as the ski resorts that are best suited for children and families.

SKIING WITH CHILDREN: HOW TO GET ORGANISED?

There is nothing better to keep children occupied during the winter than a ski outing. It allows them to do a fun physical activity and to take a big breath of fresh air, while tiring them enough to get them to sleep peacefully at night. Unfortunately, a group ski trip can be expensive and complicated to organize. Here are a few tips to organize a ski day with children, while remaining zen...

THINK ABOUT SECOND-HAND OR RENTAL EQUIPMENT

Kids grow up fast. So there's no need to buy ski boots for your little ones : they will be too small by next season! And don't forget that ski boots are not as comfortable as slippers...

To avoid headaches, boots are rented directly on site. This has a cost, but you can be sure that your children will find ski boots that fit them and in which they will be comfortable. Also, if you don't ski that often, it's best to rent skis or snowboards directly from the resort.

Some shops offer multi-day discounts, and you'll also find great discounts with PowSki partners!

As for skiwear and warm clothes for the mountains, why not buy second-hand? Ask around if any friends or family have kept their children's old snow clothes. This will save you a lot of money. You can also buy ski pants, warm sweaters and socks second-hand or at a sale, but choose to invest in a nice winter coat (raincoat) that can be used all winter long.

DIVIDE THE DAY INTO SMALL ACTIVITIES

Spending a whole day on the slopes can quickly become tiring for children (and their parents). Feel free to divide the day into several activities to make them enjoy it more. In the morning, enjoy the slopes before they are crowded with skiers, then take time to rest over lunch. In the afternoon, the courageous ones can return to the slopes, or can choose to go sliding or snowshoeing.

You can also register children for ski lessons. This is a good way to help children improve and gain confidence, while allowing them to spend time with other children (if you choose a group lesson). For longer ski trips, it's better to organise lessons in the morning and ski with the family in the afternoon.

THINK ABOUT SNACKS

Finally, don't forget to bring water and snacks during the day. This will avoid making several stops at a restaurant or shop.

And there's nothing worse than being at the top of a trail and being able to concentrate on just one thing: your stomach gurgling. If you want to take snacks with you, consider grapes, tangerines, crackers or cheese sticks.

THE BEST RESORTS FOR FAMILY SKIING

A great day of winter activities with your family starts with choosing the right ski resort. Most resorts are child-friendly and offer beginner slopes and activities for the little ones. Here are 4 ski resorts to consider if you want to ski with children.

BELLE NEIGE

This family-friendly ski resort has everything in place to welcome the whole family. Children, teenagers and adults will find what they are looking for, whether it’s advanced ski slopes, a snow park or a beginner's trail. And what a trail! The famous "Sentier des toutous" (doggie trail) is an initiation trail decorated with nearly 2000 teddy bears, stuffed animals and figurines to entertain the youngest and oldest. You can also take advantage of a marked learning park, where the gentle slope and the conveyor belt allow children to learn to ski in complete safety.

Finally, teenagers will be delighted to discover an area reserved for them: the BLLNG zone. A lounge where they can meet their friends, relax after a day of skiing, but also watch videos and find out about lots of activities!

Their longest trail, La Route, is also the easiest: it's perfect for bringing the whole family together, from beginners to more advanced skiers who want to take the time to enjoy the scenery.

Are you interested in children's ski lessons? The Ski Garceau Snow School offers several packages of lessons for children, teenagers and adults. Choose single lessons, or packages of 9 lessons, available on weekends between January and March. And once your little ones feel more comfortable on skis or snowboard, take them to “l’allée des futurs” (easily accessible with a magic carpet) or to the Central Park snow park.
